Nisky Dixie Cats

Marion Rhodes

Marion grew up outside of New York City and started piano lessons at age 9. She fondly remembers playing in a piano competition in Town Hall and doing a solo for her high school graduation. After majoring in music at Barnard College and spending a summer in the Opera Dept. at Tanglewood, she moved to Schenectady where her husband did industrial development work for the state at Albany.

In between raising four children, she sang with the Thursday Musical Club, did a few arrangements and played handbells with the Thursday Belles, held various positions on the boards of the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra and its League and served as president several times. She proudly recalls receiving the Symphony's prestigious Encore Award in 1998. But what does all this add up to? Not much time for playing the piano. Why is she so happy to be making music with the Dixie Cats? Because she's playing piano.

Marion is currently in her fourth term as Receiver of Taxes for the Town of Niskayuna and enjoys bridge, vacationing at the Maine shore and gardening.
